There are a lot of important records in this world, but what you hold in your hands is nothing less than the blueprint for outlaw country music. Old Five and Dimers Like Me is also the semi-secret classic that marked the debut of a true Texas legend. In 1960s and ‘70s Nashville, there was the commercial boom brought on by the “Countrypolitan” sound, those lush strings and angel choirs. And then there was the opposition party. It arrived in a pick-up truck and denim, and Billy Joe Shaver occupied the corner office.
