The Roots' co-founder Questlove made his directorial debut with Summer of Soul (...Or When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised), which went on to win the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival.
The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is a curation of music from the 1969 The Harlem Cultural Festival, bringing to light the sounds that would have otherwise been lost to time as most have not been heard in over 50 years. The film and soundtrack are a celebration of Black history and culture, featuring acclaimed artists like The 5th Dimension, B.B. King, Nina Simone, Sly & The Family Stone and more. Music is equally an oral telling of history, and this Summer of Soul's soundtrack illustrates it.
