Sufjan Stevens and Angelo De Augustine brought their minds together to uncover the collaborative album, A Beginner’s Mind, loosely inspired by the films they watched following a rigorous month-long songwriting journey. In this album, the two connect on a level audibly heard by listeners. Their erratic songwriting, from swapping verses and choruses to tossing out chords and lyrics, is a shared experience that was refined to bring out the best of the two. Through A Beginner’s Mind, named after the Buddhist concept of shoshin, Stevens and De Augustine unveil what it means to perceive life through a lens free of judgment or knowingness.
