Annie Clark, known by her stage name St. Vincent, challenged the bounds of her own creativity by spending time isolated in a Seattle studio working on what would become the critically acclaimed album Strange Mercy, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Clark creates a mystifying selection of distinct sounds, with electronic elements and experimental pop tiptoeing across the album's tracklist. Strange Mercy lands as a more personal glimpse at the revelations of Clark's own life and principles, bringing together a cascade of sundry synths, grooves and elevated pops of strings.
St. Vincent's fifth album, MASSEDUCTION, was our Essentials Record of the Month in November 2017, and she produced Sleater-Kinney's The Center Won't Hold, our Essentials Record of the Month in August 2019.
