She doesn’t let you forget the light she knows exists despite: despite caskets carrying souls left too soon and baby toes she’ll never count and prayers on her tongue that they’ll make it home safe. Telefone occurs in a nighttime that believes in more in the morning and doesn't smother light, but gives it a context to glow: “I hope that darkness keeps you well.”
