Black Jazz's founder, producer and keyboardist Gene Russell originally released the label's second album, Talk to My Lady, in 1973. Joined by fellow Black Jazz players Henry Franklin (bass) and Calvin Keys (guitar), Russell pivots from his first output for the label, opting for an electric sound instead of the usual traditional piano jazz trio. The album underscores his originality through songs like the titular "Talk to My Lady," "Get Down" and more, while also breathing new life on tracks like the Philly soul classic "Me and Mrs. Jones" among others.
