William Bell The Soul of a Bell

William Bell
Why you'll love it...

The debut LP from William Bell--the guy who wrote legendary songs like “Born Under A Bad Sign” and “I Forgot To Be Your Lover”--The Soul Of A Bell is something of an early career compendium, as Bell was one of the first solo males not named Rufus Thomas to put out a single on Stax, and was poised to hit the big time before he got drafted and had to put his career on ice for a few years in the mid-’60s. He got back from serving, and Otis Redding and Sam & Dave had passed him by, so he hunkered down and wrote most of his own debut LP (a rarity for Stax), delivering, six years later, on all the promise of his debut single.
