From Mark Linkous’s world rises a tender garden, where snaking vines and knotted trees cradle troves of wild beings. The Virginia-born songwriter often spoke through real and imagined animals, from horses and crows to skinny wolves. It was only natural for someone raised with a slow and rural disposition, an open-ended Southern drawl, and a spirit that preferred lush terrain to the confines of his body.
