“There’s something fiction about the way that reality is going,” Hippo Campus sang in their 2017 song “baseball.” It’s been a long while since they released that song, and even longer since they formed in 2013. To be released in February 2022, LP3 is both a look into the past and a fresh beginning for the 5-piece band. The indie pop-rockers’ music has always felt like it’s been steeped in whimsicality, but with the release of LP3, the band heads in a more grounded direction.
