Jazz Is Dead sees Gary Bartz joining Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad for its sixth album. Gary Bartz has flourished as an alto saxophonist over the past six decades within the hemisphere of progressive Black music, boasting work across genres like bebop, hard bop, free jazz, spiritual jazz, soul jazz, jazz-funk, fusion and acid jazz. His sound can be heard across songs with Max Roach and Abbey Lincoln, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and others. Bartz's influence especially culminated throughout the '70s with socio-political commentary driving his music.
