Known as the First Lady of Song, Ella Fitzgerald was widely celebrated as a one-of-a-kind singer of her era. Ella At the Hollywood Bowl: The Irving Berlin Songbook features newly discovered tapes of performances by the Queen of Jazz from Verve Records' founder Norman Ganz's private collection. Shortly after Fitzgerald recorded The Irving Berlin Songbook in August 1958, she performed a select number of songs from the album at the Hollywood Bowl with arrangements by Paul Weston, who also worked on the studio album.
