Milsap’s origins are undoubtedly country, though the majority of his middle catalog, where There’s No Gettin’ Over Me falls, is not. It takes a while. No one will ever accuse Ronnie Milsap of overnight success, but by 1973, he skyrockets. Country music began to merge with the mainstream in powerful and unchangeable ways — ways still happening today. A boy born without vision in the distal mountains of North Carolina had a whole lot to do with that.
