If you shopped the Vinyl Me, Please store yesterday, you may have noticed four titles with an "Aquarium Drunkard Pick" designation. We're happy to announce that starting this month, we are launching a new program in the store, called the VMP Selector Series, where we ask people in music to pick some of their favorite titles for our store. This month's special curator is Justin Gage from Aquarium Drunkard.
Justin started one of our favorite music blogs, Aquarium Drunkard, in 2005. The Drunkard bridges contemporary sounds with vintage garage, psych, folk, country, soul, funk, r&b and beyond. The site has since spun off Autumn Tone Records, the Aquarium Drunkard Presents series, the Lagniappe Sessions and the weekly, two hour, Aquarium Drunkard Show airing Fridays on SIRIUS/XMU (channel 35), Noon-2pm EST. Based in Los Angeles, Gage is the founder of the audio discovery site Aquarium Drunkard , Autumn Tone Records and is the host/program director behind the eclectic weekly Aquarium Drunkard show on SIRIUS XMU. He also works as a music supervisor for film and television. His next feature, Shangri-LA Suite, hits theaters globally October 28th.
Here are the four picks Justin made this month.
Various Artists Next Stop Soweto Vol 4: Zulu Rock, Afro-Disco & Mbaqanga 1975-1985
Shintaro Sakamoto How To Live With A Phantom
Stay tuned for next month's guest selector, who everyone from Madlib to Questlove looks to for the rarest records.
