In case you haven’t heard, last month, Vinyl Me, Please announced our Rap & Hip-Hop side-subscription. In addition to our Record of the Month selection, Rap & Hip-Hop subscribers receive a rap album. Love new rap that’s never been on vinyl? Want deep cut reissues? Want unsung heroes getting their day after all these years? This is the subscription for you.
Every month, we send you the Rap & Hip-Hop selection, pressed on a variety of color vinyl, remastered from the best quality audio we can get our hands on (most often, the original master tapes). In addition, our Rap & Hip-Hop titles come with an exclusive stencil. These titles are only available through the Rap & Hip-Hop subscription, and won’t be available in the store. Our first release was Noname’s debut mixtape, Telefone.
Our Rap & Hip-Hop release for October is Common’s Electric Circus. Recorded at the same time as legendary albums like Phrenology, Voodoo, and other neo-soul classics, the album blends soul, rock, and rap into something like a rap Sgt. Pepper’s. It’s a forgotten album in Common’s discography; he never made another album like it. You can stream it below:
