Our next three Country Records of the Month — which you’ll receive if you sign up for VMP Country in October, November and December 2022 — feature a breakthrough album, the live return of a star and an anniversary-edition album from the King of Country.
October: Alan Jackson A Lot About Livin’ (And a Little ’Bout Love)
For its 30th anniversary, VMP members will receive Alan Jackson’s A Lot About Livin’ (And a Little ’Bout Love). It’s famously Jackson’s breakthrough record that went on to go Platinum six times and solidified his status in country pop. On vinyl for the very first time, the record is pressed on 180g “Mercury Vinyl” with lacquers cut by Ryan Smith. The album will arrive with a Listening Notes booklet written by VMP’s Director of Music, Andrew Winistorfer.
“We’re honored to be debuting the first ever vinyl edition of A Lot About Livin’ in VMP Country,” Winistorfer said. “It’s a masterpiece of ’90s country, and one that launched Alan Jackson into superstardom. I’m so pumped everyone will be able to listen to “Chattahoochee” on vinyl, finally.”
Sign up now to receive A Lot About Livin’ (And a Little ’Bout Love).
November: Townes Van Zandt’s Live at The Old Quarter, Houston, Texas
In November, VMP Country members will receive Live at The Old Quarter, Houston, Texas. Originally recorded in 1973 and later released in 1977, the album arrived as a restoration following a hiatus in Townes Van Zandt’s career. The live album is pressed on exclusive 2LP Black & White Galaxy vinyl with lacquers cut by Ryan Smith and comes with a Listening Notes booklet written by Andy O’Connor.
“This Townes Van Zandt live album is one of the masterpieces of live country music, alongside At Folsom Prison and Carnegie Hall Concert, two albums we’ve already featured in VMP Country, so this one was a no-brainer for us,” Winistorfer said. “Townes was at his best when he was removing all artifice between him and the audience, speaking his songs plainly and directly. This is his best album, one that even people who aren’t fans of Townes cannot deny.”
Live at The Old Quarter, Houston, Texas will be available for sign-ups starting October 20.
December: George Strait’s Ocean Front Property
George Strait’s swaggering seventh studio album, Ocean Front Property, celebrates its 35th anniversary as the December Country Record of the Month. Ocean Front Property is pressed on 180g “Am I Blue” colored vinyl with lacquers cut by Ryan Smith and a Listening Notes booklet by John Lingan.
“George Strait is like the bridge between ’70s and ’90s country, the man between outlaws and the mall country kings of the ’90s,” Winistorfer said. “And you basically can’t go wrong with any of his albums from the ’80s, but this one felt like the perfect VMP Country selection, because it has the big hits like ‘All My Exes Live in Texas,’ but it also has some of the finest deep cuts of Strait’s career. Either way, George is a legend, and we’re glad to finally feature him in VMP Country.”
Ocean Front Property will be available for sign-ups starting November 17.
