In case you haven’t heard, for the last three months, we’ve had a members-only side-subscription up and running called Vinyl Me, Please Classics. In addition to our Record of the Month selection, Classics members receive an album in the classic genres of jazz, blues or soul. Want a crate-digger soul classic? Want to have a blues night with the bros? Then this is the subscription service for you.
Every month, we send you the Classics selection, pressed on 180g black vinyl, with the original cover art and remastered from the highest quality audio we can get our hands on (most often, the original master tapes). In addition, our Classics albums come with an exclusive Listening Notes booklet. These titles are only available through the Classics subscription, and won’t be available in the store. Our first four releases were, Archie Shepp’s Attica Blues, John Lee Hooker’s It Serve You Right to Suffer, Ollie & The Nightingales’ self-titled debut and Alice Coltrane’s Journey In Satchidananda.
Our Classics release for October is Carla Thomas’ Comfort Me, the singer’s second album. She was the original star of Stax records--her first singles essentially bankrolled everything that came next--and after she released her debut LP in 1961, she decided to go get a college education, only returning to music after pursuing a masters degree. Featuring music from the M.G.’s, and songwriting from all the hitters in Stax’s lineup, our reissue of Comfort Me aims to restore Carla in the pantheon of Stax stars, alongside Otis, and Isaac and Sam and Dave.

In November, we’ll be featuring Jazz Samba, a collaborative classic in the bossa nova genre from Charlie Byrd and Stan Getz. December’s Classics selection is Waiting for Little Milton by Little Milton.
So now you’re wondering how you get signed up for Classics. If you are already a Vinyl Me, Please member, all you need to do is log into your account, click Memberships, and you can add Classics for $23 a month.
Not a Vinyl Me, Please member, but want to sign up for Classics and for the club proper? You can sign up for Vinyl Me, Please, and then add Classics (by following the directions above) by going here.
But wait, there’s more: later this year, we’ll be opening Classics to the general public as a standalone subscription separate from Vinyl Me, Please. If you’re interested in Classics as a standalone, and want to be notified when spots become available, enter your email address below.
